National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) Director-General, J. Cyrus Saygbe, Sr., says the longstanding challenges facing Grand Kru County must no longer be accepted as normal.
Saygbe declared how the government was determined to deliver meaningful change to the county.
He made the statement when he appeared on Voice of Grand Kru 98.1 FM ahead of World Fishing Day.
He said, the people of Grand Kru have endured hardship for too long, and deserve a government that responds to their development needs.
“Grand Kru County has suffered for too long, but this government is here to fix it for the people.”
Sygbe’s remarks place renewed attention on government to address Grand Kru’s development challenges, particularly in communities where residents heavily depend on fishing, and other local economic activities.
With World Fishing Day approaching, Saygbe also highlighted the importance of fishing communities, and the need for interventions capable of improving livelihoods.
His declaration is likely to raise expectations among residents, many of whom continue to call for stronger investment in infrastructure, economic opportunities, and basic public services.
The key question for residents now, is whether the government promise to “fix” Grand Kru will translate into visible projects, and lasting improvements.
