Yellequelleh District Paramount Chief Kerkulah Kponoqullie, has earned widespread commendation after donating L$14,400 to support midwives participating in a two-day maternal health training in Gbartala City, Electoral District #5.
The donation came as health workers from several clinics gathered and strengthened their knowledge, and skills in promoting safe childbirth, and reducing maternal and newborn deaths in rural communities.
Participants described Kponoqullie’s contribution as timely, and encouraging, saying it boosted morale throughout the training.
Kponoqullie provided L$5,400 to purchase of two bags of 25kgs rice, and an additional L$9,000 for soup kinds to feed the participants.
The head of the midwives at Gbartala Clinic, Leemue Boakai, thanked Kponoqullie for his kind gesture.
Madam Boakai said, the donation reflected Kponoqullie’s commitment to improve maternal healthcare, and support frontline health workers, who continue to serve communities despite limited resources.
Other participants also expressed appreciation to Kponoqullie. They noted that his intervention demonstrated strong community leadership, and a genuine concern for the well-being of mothers, and newborns.
Kponoqullie joined the midwives in a parade through the streets of Gbartala before he officially made the donation.
The procession drew the attention of residents, and highlighted the importance of maternal health awareness, and safe delivery practices.
The event was attended by Yellequelleh District Commissioner, Musu Nana, along with several local leaders, who reaffirmed their support for initiatives to improve healthcare services.
The training focused on educating midwives about the dangers of home deliveries, and emphasized the need to encourage pregnant women to seek skilled care at recognized health facilities.
The training was organized by Gbartala Clinic Officer-in-Charge, Row Ford, in collaboration with the Bong County Health Team. It was part of ongoing efforts to promote safe motherhood, and improve maternal health services throughout lower Bong County.
