M/Land County Inducts Over 100 Chiefs

By Gareyson Y. Neufville

For the first time since the end of the Liberian civil war (1989-2003), more than 100 chiefs have been officially inducted into office in Maryland County.

The induction exercise followed the recent appointment of the chiefs by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

The ceremony, held in Harper, the county capital, marked a significant milestone in promoting decentralization and strengthening the role of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Internal Affairs Ministry Deputy Minister for Research, Edward Mulbah, along with Maryland County Superintendent, Mike T. Swengbe, led a team of local government officials to perform the induction at the county administration building in Harper.

Mr. Mulbah cautioned the chiefs to carry out their duties with professionalism, noting that they serve as vital links between their communities and the national government.

Some chiefs expressed appreciation for the mantle of authority bestowed upon them, pledging to serve their people with commitment.
