Weah Provides LRD $ 5M -For Grand Bassa Rural Women Farming Project
In an effort to combat food insecurity across the country, the president of the Republic of Liberia His Excellency George Weah through the National Rural Women of Liberia has made available LD five million to the Rural Women of Bassa for farming purposes. During a symbolic presentation at the office of the county’s superintendent, Mrs. VerneeTwehway, the county coordinator of the Rural Women in Bassa said the money is intended to empower women across the county in the area of communal farming. Mrs. Twehway disclosed that each of the five electoral districts will receive nine hundred thousand Liberian Dollars each, while the remaining five hundred thousand will be distributed among other rural women communities within the county, but it remains unclear as to when the distribution process will commence. She added the Ministry of Commerce will play a monitoring role in ensuring that the money meets the said goal. For his part, the county’s superintendent Hon. Eddie Levi Williams thanked the president on behalf of the people of Bassa for looking in the direction of empowering women in the county. Hon. Williams said it is not the first time for president Weah to send money to the county for empowerment, naming three million Liberian Dollars for the small and medium enterprises and five million Liberian Dollars for the Liberia Marketing Association.
