Authorities at the Liberia National Police (LNP) have fired a senior officer in Bong County.
The dismissal of the officer followed an internal investigation that found him responsible for “neglecting a detainee.” The detained individual, LNP said, had earlier requested for “urgent medical attention” while in custody.
Police Chief Inspector, Daniel G. Flomo, formerly Deputy Commander of the Crime Services Division at the Bong County Police Headquarters, was officially relieved of his duties.
Flomo removal followed came after investigators concluded that he “failed to act on repeated reports concerning the deteriorating health condition of detainee Charles Kollie.”
Police statement on Tuesday, June 23, said, the dismissal takes immediate effect, and follows the outcome of an administrative inquiry into the handling of the case.
The investigation established that officers assigned to the Bravo Shift (second shift) had alerted Flomo about the worsening condition of detainee Kollie.
“Despite being informed of the situation, he failed to take appropriate steps to ensure that Kollie received timely medical attention.”
Police authorities described the conduct as a serious “breach of professional responsibility, and a violation of established duty of care required of all officers.”
The findings indicated that such inaction amounted to “neglect of duty under police regulations.”
The LNP noted that Flomo’s actions violated Section 8.4(c) of the National Police Act and Regulations of 2015, as well as Section 5.1(p) of the Administrative Instructions on Discipline and Professional Standards, both of which classified such behavior as “misconduct that warranted his dismissal.”
As part of the disciplinary measures, Flomo has been instructed to immediately surrender all government-issued properties, including his badge, uniform, identification card, and other official equipment, to the Human Resource Management Division of the police.
He has further been barred from presenting himself as a member of the LNP, or else, he would face further stringent punishment.
The police administration has meanwhile, reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of individuals in custody.
