The River Gee County Health Team has officially inaugurated, and handed over the newly constructed Killepo Primary Healthcare Clinic to staff, and residents of Killepo Chiefdom, Chedepo Administrative District.
The facility was built by the government with support from the German humanitarian organization, Welthungerhilf-WHH, funded by the German Government through KfW Development Bank.
For years, the Killepo Clinic operated as a self-help facility, and the only dependable healthcare center for the locals.
The new structure now provides a safer, more modern environment with reliable solar power, improved WASH systems, and upgraded medical spaces designed to improve service quality and efficiency.
The dedication was held on Thursday, July 23.
The County Health Officer, Dr. Pauline Weah Mehdeh, thanked the government, the Ministry of Health, the German Government, WHH, and Killepo residents for their cooperation during the construction.
“These improvements not only restored the clinic’s capacity to function, but also strengthened its resilience, and ability to provide quality healthcare services for years to come.”
Superintendent, Mike Tarpeh Swengbe, also commended government, and partners for investing in the health sector.
He urged community members to take ownership of the facility.
”The government, and our partners have made a significant investment in the lives of our people. It is now our collective responsibility to protect, and manage this facility.”
Residents described the clinic as the first major government-owned project in the chiefdom.
A 68-year-old Betty Koffa said: “Since we settled on this land, this is the very first government-owned project we have received. We promised to use this clinic wisely, and take good care of it.”
Community elder, David Tweh, assured authorities that residents will protect, and maintain the facility: ”This clinic belongs to us. We will make sure it is well maintained, and properly utilized for the benefit of everyone.”
By the dedication of the new facility, River Gee now operates 22 health facilities, including Fish-Town Referral Hospital, two comprehensive health centers, and several clinics.
The completion of Killepo Clinic expands access to essential services for Chedepo, and neighboring communities.
The inauguration began with a traditional kola nut ceremony at the Killepo Kanweaken Town Hall. It brought together health authorities, local officials, women, youth, elders, and community members.
Welthungerhilfe is one of Germany’s largest independent humanitarian organizations. It has implemented over 12,700 projects in 72 countries, and continues to support health, water, sanitation, and resilience programs in Liberia.
