‘Mob Attacks’ LGBTQ+ Advocate
A mob armed with deadly objects reportedly attacked Mrs. Victoria Saydee Kollie, a well-known LGBTQ+ advocate.
The victim is the wife of fellow human rights activist, Mitchell Kpehe Kollie.
The incident reportedly occurred late Friday night along the Roberts International Airport (RIA)/ELWA highway. The incident occurred at approximately 10:55 p.m. on November 21, 2025, as Mrs. Kollie was returning from an LGBTQ+ community meeting.
Eyewitness accounts’ and statements from the family said, Mrs. Kollie was confronted by a group of individuals believed to have monitoring her movements.
The mob reportedly shouted anti-LGBTQ+ slurs and made threats linked to her advocacy work before launching a physical attack.
Mrs. Kollie sustained injuries during the assault, and was left traumatized as the attackers dispersed into the surrounding area before authorities arrived on the scene.
Her husband, Mitchell Kollie, described the attack as “a targeted act of hatred meant to silence our voices and intimidate the LGBTQ+ community.”
Despite the severity of the assault, police have not yet made any arrests, raising concerns from human rights organizations about the safety of LGBTQ+ activists in the country.
Advocacy groups have meanwhile called for a swift, and transparent investigation, urging law enforcement to prioritize the protection of vulnerable communities.
“This kind of violence cannot continue unchecked,” said a local human rights observer.
“LGBTQ+ advocates in Liberia are increasingly being targeted, and the lack of arrests sends a dangerous message.”
Mrs. Kollie is currently recovering from her injuries as the family awaits official action from the authorities.
The incident has sparked renewed debate over the safety of activists, and the need for stronger legal protections for marginalized groups in the country.
