The head of Make-It-Ray Union in Louisiana Township, Montserrado County, said the operations of the local transport business has been halted.

Make-It-Ray is a local transport system, which locals formulated during the height of the 14-long years civil war (1989-2023).

A bag of charcoal used to be priced at L$100 on the train, but halting the service would affect the riders’ income.

Jefferson Hoggard is the Union co-chair.

He told In Profile newspaper that a formal communication was received from China Union mandating all Make-It-Ray operations immediately closed down.

Make-It-Ray formally used the then abandoned train track, but China Union has resumed operations on the track, therefore, it was not advisable anymore to travel on the Make-It-Ray manpowered train on the track.

China Union has made available only a trailer bucket to haul charcoal and other stuff, especially during the raining season.

As former chair of the Make-It-Ray transport, Hoggard said, the company needs to do more to transport locally produced goods to urban markets.

Instead of a trailer bucket, Hoggard stressed the need for China Union to provide a flatcar for goods and a train bus for passengers to avoid the associated risks of travelling.

“It is strenuous to give one hour each for those responsible to onload and offload local goods at commercial stations.”
