Questions surrounding the management of public resources in Grand Kru County have taken a center stage.

For that, citizens’ advocacy group, has called for a full audit of development funds received between 2018 and 2026.

The Concerned Citizens for Transparency and Accountability in Grand Kru, led by Chairman Nicholas N. Doryen Wleh, has formally requested the General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct a comprehensive review of the county’s financial records during the eight-year period.

In a letter addressed to Senator Numene T. H. Bartekwa, the Chair of the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus, the group argued that residents deserve a clear accounting of how county funds were spent, and what development outcomes were achieved.

The proposed audit would examine County Development Funds, Social Development Funds, and other government allocations made to the county.

It would also review procurement procedures, project implementation records, and financial transactions related to county development initiatives.

The request comes at a time when many citizens raised concerns about the pace of development in parts of the county despite years of budgetary support and financial allocations from the national government.

Wleh said, the objective is not only to determine how funds were utilized, but to also strengthen transparency and accountability in local governance.

He believes an independent audit would provide factual information that could address public concerns and improve confidence in the management of public resources.

If approved, the audit would cover multiple administrations and leadership structures, making it one of the financial reviews ever proposed for the county.

The communication has been shared with the GAC, local authorities, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, youth and women groups, and political stakeholders, as part of efforts to build support for the initiative.

The move is expected to spark countywide discussions on accountability, development performance, and the stewardship of public funds, as citizens await a response from the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus.
