The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has announced a major nationwide project to connect 156 government high schools all 15 counties to high-speed internet.

The move, official said, will transform digital learning in public education.

LTA Chairperson, Clarence K. Massaquoi, who made the announcement, said, the project is being implemented in partnership with global satellite internet provider Starlink.

The initiative carries an initial investment of approximately US$500,000 of equipment and connectivity.

The project targets government high schools in every county and other underserved region.

The LTA will serve as the lead implementing agency. Its responsibilities include conducting site assessments, procuring equipment, and overseeing the installation of internet facilities in all 156 schools.

To ensure smooth local coordination, all equipment procured through the LTA, and its development partners, will be handed over to county administrations after arrival in the country.

“The county authorities will play a key role in supporting the implementation process. Once the materials are received, they will be handed over to the respective county administrations to ensure the successful rollout of the project.”

Massaquoi said, an additional US$250,000 will be required to complete the nationwide installation once the Starlink equipment arrives.
