The Lofa County Health Team has launched a six-day neonatal care training program for healthcare workers to manage newborn health complications.

The training converged healthcare professionals from Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital, Kolahun Hospital, Foya Borma Hospital, and Curran Lutheran Hospital.

The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in collaboration with FHI 360. It is part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of newborn healthcare services, and equip frontline workers with essential clinical skills.

It focuses on critical aspects of neonatal care, including the early identification of newborn complications, essential newborn care, immediate interventions for babies experiencing breathing difficulties, infection prevention, temperature regulation, and the appropriate management and referral of critically ill newborns.

These interventions are essential in helping healthcare providers respond promptly to medical emergencies of newborns, particularly during the first hours, and days after birth.

Through the training, participants are expected to strengthen their knowledge, improve their clinical practices, and enhance their ability to provide timely, effective, and quality care to newborns in their respective facilities.

The initiative underscores the shared commitment of the Ministry, FHI 360, and the Lofa County Health Team to reduce preventable newborn deaths, and improve health outcomes for mothers and their babies.
