Koinah Delivers ‘Peace Message’ In Duwah Town

Bong County Electoral District #1 Representative, Prince K. Koinah, has called for peace, unity, and respect for the rule of law.

Koinah’s peace message followed a reported arson incident in Duwah Town, Boisien Administrative District that damaged several homes.

At a community meeting with residents in Boisien District, Rep. Koinah condemned violence. He called on the locals to remain calm the appropriate authorities thoroughly investigate the incident.

“I am not in support of any violence in the district. We are all one people living together.”

He stressed the need to settle disputes between communities through dialogue, and lawful channels rather than violence and destruction.

As part of his response to the situation, Rep. Koinah pledged 50 bundles of zinc, and a power saw to assist families whose homes were damaged, and support ongoing reconstruction efforts.

The assistance is expected to help affected families begin rebuilding their homes as community leaders work to restore stability, and peaceful relations in the area.

Bong County Administrator Sam Elliot, who also addressed the gathering, commended residents for maintaining peace in the face of the rising the tensions.

Elliot assured residents that the authorities would pursue the matter through appropriate legal channels, and encouraged community members to cooperate with any investigation.

The incident occurred on August 28, following the reported drowning of a couple in the St. John River.

The couple had attempted crossing to neighboring Nimba County when the incident occurred.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, residents of Kpanquoi Town were accused of setting structures in Duwah Town on fire.

The allegations remain under investigation, and authorities have yet to release a final determination on responsibility.

Duwah Town is home to more than 1,000 residents.

Affected families are currently working to rebuild their homes while elders, and local authorities continue efforts to prevent further tensions.

Community leaders have meanwhile appealed for dialogue, reconciliation, and respect for the rule of law.
