Crisis in Gbanken, a settlement in Grand Kru County has ended following the intervention of Senator Numene T. H. Bartekwa.
A longstanding challenge, which faced residents of Gbanken was also peacefully settled following the construction of a modern town hall.
The event caused the City Mayor Esther Plee to praise Sen. Bartekwa for responding to a ‘community need.’
For years, Gbanken reportedly lacked a dedicated public facility where residents could host visitors, conduct community meetings, and organize important social and civic activities.
Madam Plee told reporters over the weekend that the absence of a town hall had repeatedly forced community leaders to depend on churches, and schools whenever they needed a venue.
According to the mayor, securing those facilities was not always guaranteed.
On occasions when churches, or schools were unavailable, community members had no choice, but to conduct meetings in open spaces.
“Sometimes we will beg churches, or schools, and if they don’t agree, it means we will have the meeting in an open gathering.”
She said, the newly constructed town hall therefore represents more than a physical structure.
Madam Plee described the development as a long-awaited solution to a problem that had affected the community ability to organize gatherings, and host visitors in a suitable environment.
Madam Plee expressed appreciation to Sen. Bartekwa for the intervention, and prayed for God’s continued blessings upon him.
She said the facility is expected to provide Gbanken residents with a permanent venue for community discussions, public gatherings, and other activities to advance local development.
The construction of the town hall is being presented as part of Bartekwa’s infrastructure initiatives in the county.
