More than 400 women farmers under the Rescue Women Farming Group in Kolahun District, Lofa County, have received a major boost to their farming activities following a US$1,000 cash donation from former Representative Clarence K. Massaquoi, who also pledged additional US$1,000 to support the group’s ongoing agricultural operations.

The donation was presented on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Rescue Women Farm, where the occasion was marked by emotional scenes as several members of the group expressed tears of joy and gratitude over the support. The financial assistance is expected to help the women address some of their immediate farming challenges, including transportation costs, payment for harvesting contractors, the establishment of a storage facility, and the purchase of essential harvesting tools. Speaking during the presentation, Massaquoi commended the women for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to agriculture.  He also acknowledged President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for what he described as his continued support for women across Liberia. He assured the farmers that their contributions to agricultural development would not be overlooked, emphasizing that the government, with the support of the President, remains mindful of the important role women play in the country’s development. Overwhelmed by the gesture, members of the group expressed appreciation, describing Massaquoi as the only individual who had responded to their needs. “We are happy, and you are the only one who has helped us,” the women said, highlighting the challenges they have faced in seeking assistance for their farming activities. Receiving the donation on behalf of the group, Chairlady Madam Olady Sepoe described the intervention as a major relief, saying it had provided much-needed assistance to the women. Madam Sepoe explained that despite several appeals for support, the group had not received the assistance it needed until Massaquoi’s intervention. She expressed gratitude to the former lawmaker for responding to their concerns, describing his contribution as a demonstration of genuine leadership and concern for the farming community. The women subsequently offered prayers for him, thanking him for what they described as his timely intervention and commitment to their welfare. The program concluded with songs, prayers, and expressions of appreciation from the women, who said the financial support would significantly contribute to their harvesting efforts and help prevent the possible loss of their agricultural produce this season. The intervention is expected to strengthen the group’s efforts toward improving food production, supporting women’s economic activities, and contributing to agricultural development in Kolahun District.
