Grand Bassa County Senator Gbehzohngar Milton Findley has denounced political pressure, criticism, or intimidation as factors that will not silence him from representing the interests of his constituents.
Findley insisted that his mandate requires him to speak openly on issues affecting the county.
He told that his responsibility to the people of Grand Bassa is one he takes seriously, and intends to exercise without fear, regardless of opposition, or attempts to discourage him from taking firm positions on national, and county-level issues.
Findley said, representing Grand Bassa is more than holding an elected political office.
He described the responsibility as a public trust that requires him to consistently raise the concerns of the people, and demand attention to problems affecting their livelihoods, and development.
Findley said, he would continue advocating for the interests of the Bassa people, and use his position at the senate to ensure that issues affecting the county are placed on the national agenda.
His comments, however, raise the question of whether political representation is being translated into measurable development for ordinary citizens.
Findley maintained how Grand Bassa deserves fearless, and effective representation, particularly on issues with direct economic consequences.
But beyond political declarations, residents are likely to judge that representation by concrete results, transparency, and the extent to which national decisions actually improve conditions in the county.
A major issue Findley addressed was the controversial question of decentralizing the ports. He disclosed how he did not initially support the decision, signaling that the policy has not been without disagreement even among lawmakers representing counties with major port interests.
Despite his reservations, Findley acknowledged President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s decision to pursue port decentralization.
