The prolonged delay in confirming about thirty local officials of Grand Kru County has drawn the attention of concerned citizens of the county residing in Monrovia. The Grand Kru citizens said the absence of their local officials to execute their respective tasks within the county since their nominations and subsequent appointments is greatly affecting the operations in the county especially at the detriment of the citizens. According to them, only twenty four out of fifty four local officials nominated and appointed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai were confirmed by their lawmakers, leaving majority of the appointees and or nominees unconfirmed; this, they described, as sad and unfortunate for the county and its people.  “We don’t know the actual cause of the delay and we don’t want to shift blames but all we want and appeal is for our Senators to do the needful by confirming our trusted and reliable local officials in order for them to do their work mainly with the confidence reposed in them by the Liberian leader since three months ago,” the concerned citizens noted. One of the nominees, Wilfred W. Doe, City Mayor designate for Snoh City of Grand Kru County who added his voice to that of his kinsman, called on President Joseph Boakai to peacefully urge the Grand Kru County senators to confirm the county local government officials whom he nominated since April 18, 2024. “We are passionate to serve our people and are willing to work in implementing the ARREST Agenda in our county for the government, but the prolonged delay in our confirmation is saddened,”, he lamented.  According to him, the over thirty local officials who are yet to be confirmed by their lawmakers are currently stranded in Monrovia and need to go back home to serve their people, but can’t do so without their legal authority which will grant them the right and opportunity to serve their people at the local government level. However, it is still unclear as to what exactly is the cause of the delay in the confirmation of these local officials by their own lawmakers, as no official statement has been released from the office of Senators Albert Tugbe Chie and Numene T.H. Bartekwe, respectively.  The concerned citizens encouraged their lawmakers to see the issue as urgent and a county emergency that needs to be addressed in a timely manner and form in the supreme interest of the people of Grand Kru County. Grand Kru County, located in Southeastern Liberia, had a former President, George Weah, and former Pro- Tempore, Albert Chie, and currently a sitting Speaker, Jonathan Fonati Koffa, who is also representing his people as District Two Representative. The county, sparsely populated, has a rich soil and is blessed with past and current influential leaders but is under developed as hardship, poor health care and educational facilities, deplorable roads like other counties and regions are issues confronting the growth and development of that Southeastern county of Liberia.
