The Inspector General (IG) of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Gregory Coleman said the police has discovered about 538 criminal hideouts in Monrovia and its environs. Addressing a press briefing at the headquarters of the LNP on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, IG Coleman disclosed that the LNP operational team is currently in the field raiding criminal hideouts, reuniting young children with their parents and making arrests where necessary. According to him, the action is in accordance with the police’s responsibility to keep the city calm and ensure that people move around freely in effecting their daily activities ahead of the Independence Day Celebrations. “As part of the exercise, we have been engaged in a lot of formational issues with the drug peddlers, so we will be contacting the DEA to form part of the exercise because our intention is not to go after drugs but the criminals,” IG Coleman stressed. The Police IG added that during their recent engagement, it was observed that everywhere has been infested with drugs, so the DEA will accompany the Police on the exercise. “We will continue to update the public as we proceed with investigation and ongoing operational activities to keep the nation safe as we continue to build safe communities where our children can grow in peace and develop to be the future leaders that we expect to see,” IG Coleman said.
