Growing concerns have emerged over the security situation along the Monrovia/Bomi Highway, with reports that commuters, and residents have increasingly been targeted by marauding criminals operating along parts of the major transportation corridor.
Our staff, who visited the highway over the way weekend, was informed that some of attackers are mainly posted around Gwan Town in the proximity of Po River in Bomi County.

The teacher narration was buttressed by a commercial driver, who said, the criminal activities mainly target commercial cyclists, who transport their passengers up to dawn.
For joint security at Klay Junction, they are not authorized to speak to the press, they confirmed repeated news of the upsurge in crimes, but were yet to come in contact with any of the suspected criminals. For the reports, authorities at the Liberia National Police (LNP) have increased the highway patrol along the highway.
The allegation was contacted to criminals that have targeted cyclists, specifically, at night hours.
According to reports, some residents, and road users have expressed fear over a growing wave of criminal activity, particularly in areas where security presence is limited.
The concerns have raised fresh questions about the safety of commuters, who depend on the highway daily to travel between Monrovia, and communities in Bomi County as well as Duala, a commercial hub serving Western part of the country.
Residents say, the situation could become more serious if authorities fail to strengthen security measures; increase police patrols, and respond quickly to reports of criminal activity.
The highway serves as an important link between Monrovia, and in the West, making its security critical to commuters, commercial drivers, residents, and businesses operating along the corridor.
Authorities, including LNP, have yet to publicly confirm the full scale, and frequency of the reported incidents.
Residents have meanwhile, called for increased police visibility, especially during nighttime hours, as well as stronger community-based security measures to deter criminals.
The growing concerns come amid warnings that traveling outside Monrovia at dusk can carry increased security risks, particularly on poorly lit roads.
For many commuters, the question is becoming increasingly urgent as to whether the Monrovia/Bomi Highway slowly turning into a danger zone, and what are authorities doing to stop the rising crimes?
