The inhabitants of Tienpo Woloken in River Gee County have renewed calls to the government to construct a concrete bridge over River Norh.
The condition of the river has become a ‘death trap’ and a major obstacle to the livelihoods of the locals.
The absence of a bridge over the river has made daily movement difficult and dangerous, especially during the rainy season when the water level rises.
Community members have been forced to trek cross the river to access schools, and health facilities.
Residents said, for years, they have crossed the river by means of makeshift canoes and logs; a situation they described as “unsafe and dehumanizing.”
“We are tired of calling on people to help us. This place is not safe for us, especially for our children and pregnant women. We are begging the government to come to construct a concrete bridge.”
The locals recalled how the River Norh serves as a major link between Tienpo Woloken, and other surrounding towns and villages in the district.
