IT CAN BE recalled that the Government of Liberia, through President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, recently vowed to dismantle the dens of dangerous drugs and pursue members of drug cartels who have allegedly used, and continue to use, Liberia as a transit point for the international trafficking of illicit drugs.
PRESIDENT BOAKAI, SPEAKING in a serious tone while addressing the nation on the alarming proliferation of dangerous drugs in the country, said the government, in collaboration with international security agencies, is digging deep into the matter to identify and bring to justice those involved.
ACCORDINGLY, SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS reportedly connected to drug-trafficking networks have been apprehended and investigated, with some placed under detention.
THE LIBERIAN PUBLIC is eagerly waiting to see the drug Goliaths brought down through the full force of the law. The President’s message appears to have helped calm public tension while restoring hope in the hearts and minds of many Liberians.
AS THE PURSUIT of these drug Goliaths intensifies, we hope the speed at which they are being hunted will double, if not triple, if Liberia is to become and remain a safe haven from the destructive influence of drug trafficking.
IT IS AGAINST this backdrop that we wish the Government of Liberia victory in its war against the drug Goliaths, both within and beyond Liberia’s borders.
IT IS OUR hope that the investigation and prosecution of everyone connected to the drug cartels will continue without fear, favor, or political interference, until those responsible face the full consequences of the law.
THE FIGHT AGAINST dangerous drugs must not be selective. It must reach the powerful as well as the powerless, the known as well as the unknown. No drug lord, financier, facilitator, or accomplice should be above the law.
As the wind blows, let all drug Goliaths fall—and let justice prevail.
