Another disturbing incident in the education sector, has emerged in Foya District, Lofa County.

A teacher at the Free Pentecostal Mission School has stabbed a student reportedly during a confrontation. The incident started over the student’s “indecent hairstyle” which he covered with a face cap.

The incident reportedly sparked outrage among residents, and renewed concerns about violence within educational institutions.

According to eyewitnesses, the assault involved the dean of students, who reportedly confronted a student (not named) for failing to cut his hair in line with the school regulations.

The incident which began as a routine disciplinary matter escalated into a violent encounter that left the student seriously injured.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the dean reportedly ordered the student out of the class after he observed that his hair had not been properly trimmed.

The student on the one hand, refused to comply with the instruction, leading to a heated exchange between the pair.

Witnesses said tensions quickly rose as the disagreement intensified.

Instead of being resolved through dialogue or administrative procedures, the hostility turned physical, drawing the attention of students and staff members nearby.

In a shocking turn of events, the dean was accused of using a kitchen knife, which he allegedly used and stabbed the student during the altercation that nearly resulted in a free-for-all fist fights.

The alleged attack left the victim wounded and in urgent need of medical attention, prompting concerned individuals to rush him to a nearby health facility.

While authorities have not officially disclosed the student’s medical condition, reports suggest that the injuries were serious enough that required immediate advanced treatment.

The occurrence has left many parents and community members questioning the safety of students under the care of school authorities.

Residents of Foya have expressed shock over the allegations, which they described as a “troubling abuse of authority.”

Many citizens argue that regardless of disciplinary concerns, educators are expected to guide students through counseling and corrective measures rather than resorting to violence.

The stabbing comes at a time when Foya District has already been under national scrutiny due to a series of controversial incidents, including mob violence and tensions that involved the presence of Guinean soldiers along the Liberian side of the Makona border.

Community leaders fear that the latest episode further damages the district’s reputation and raises concerns about public safety.

Parents, civil society actors, and local leaders have meanwhile, called on the Ministry of Education, the Liberia National Police, and county authorities to launch a thorough and transparent investigation.
