Eight people have been forwarded to the Fish Town Magisterial Court in River Gee County.

Police assigned in the county arrested the eight individuals for their alleged involvement in the abuse, and violent treatment they melted against a 58-year-old Regina Parteah of Killepo Tororoken.

Madam Parteah was accused of witchcraft activity, and subsequently paraded nude in the streets of Tororoken.

Police said, the defendants were re-arrested following a renewed investigation into an incident that sparked national outrage after a video of the act circulated on social media.

The accused are: Cyrus Tinapo, Doe Waplo, Patrick Swen, Princess Appleton, Moses Tarwole, Esther Welabo, Rufus Swen and Benedict Taryon.

Madam Parteah was stripped naked, her hair cut, and subjected to inhumane treatment in public.

The video drew widespread condemnation from every quarter and human rights groups, who demanded justice from Madam Parteah.

LNP said, the investigation is centered on criminal conduct, ruling out the allegation of witchcraft.

“All legal procedures were observed during the arrest process, and the defendants were informed of their constitutional rights.”

Police said, evidence gathered, includes Madam Parteah’s statement, video footage of the incident, physical observations, which confirmed her hair was cut, statements obtained from the defendants during questionings.

Based on the findings, police charged all eight with criminal conspiracy, criminal coercion, harassment, and felonious restraint.

The defendants have been forwarded to court for prosecution. Police say investigations remain ongoing and additional arrests are possible as more details emerge.

Human rights advocates have called for a swift and fair trial, saying no one should face mob justice or public humiliation regardless of allegations against them.
