Youth & Sports Launches Government Cadet Program By: Julius Konton
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Minister has officially launched the 2024 National cadet program. The national Cadet Program which was established on June 11, 1986 by former President Samuel kanyon Doe is among other things gear towards strong thing and empowering the citizens of Liberia especially youths and graduating senior students. Speaking at the official launching ceremony Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu said the national Cadet Program is a three-month long program designed to recruit recent young graduates and graduating seniors from Universities as well as Vocational Institutions. The targeted beneficiaries as part of the program will be placed into public and private institutions to acquire relevant job experience for possible employment. According to him, this year’s cadet program is expected to take place in four Counties, namely; Grand Bassa, Nimba, Lofa and Montserrado Counties targeting 140 youths respectively. Speaking at the program, Cllr. Bangula stated that the program is also intended to train and develop potential youths in order to add value to their professional expertise. The program, since 2009; he further indicated, has empowered 975 young Liberians, 550 females and 425 males. Under the program he stressed that 200 young people benefitted from livelihood seed capital for business empowerment. Cllr. Bangalu said they have engaged over thirty-nine host institutions to host Cadets for the Program, “Only 20 host Institutions agreed to host our Cadets for this year’s edition for the period of three months”, he noted. Making reference to eligibility criteria , the Youth and Sports Minister noted that to successfully benefit from the program, he or she must be a Liberian, age eighteen to thirty five, a graduating Senior in the last Semester or recently graduated in the last three years and GPA of at least 2.5 and above respectively. “We encourage all youths in these Counties to take advantage of this national initiative and apply to benefit from this national endeavor,” Minister Bangalu Concluded.
