The Ministry of Public Works has faced a renewed pressure to explain its response to the deteriorating condition of the Yele Bridge.
The bridge worsened condition is reported in Yelequelleh, Suakoko District, Bong County, as residents raise growing concerns about public safety, and access to essential services.
A concerned citizen of Suakoko District, Gabriel T. Saah, has meanwhile called on the Ministry, and other relevant authorities to urgently assess the bridge, and take concrete steps to address its worsening condition.
Saah said, portions of the bridge have broken, or have gone missing, while large openings, and deteriorating metal components have created concerns for commuters.
The condition of the bridge can no longer be treated as a minor infrastructure problem, “because the structure serves as an important link for communities.”
The latest concerns have also raised questions about the level of attention the Ministry of Public Works has given to rural infrastructure, including roads, and bridges.
Saah said similar concerns about the Yele Bridge were raised in 2024, but the condition of the structure remains a source of worry for commuters.
He has for that, demanded a professional engineering assessment to determine the extent of the damage to the bridge, and whether it can be rehabilitated, or requires complete reconstruction.
For residents of Yelequelleh, and surrounding communities, the demand is straightforward: assess the bridge, address the safety concerns, and provide a lasting solution before the situation becomes more serious.
