Nimba Kwado, over the weekend took a step to expand access to higher education in the county.
The initiative followed an informative meeting with Nimba University President, Dr. Jesse N. Mongrue, on a proposed investment estimated between US$700,000 and US$800,000.
The weekend meeting, held in Sanniquellie City, brought together Nimba Kwado delegates, and the leadership of Nimba University. They discussed a proposal that will broaden the university’s reach curriculum, and create new opportunities for students.
The Nimba Kwado delegation was headed by its national chairlady, and youth chairman, who presented a proposal seeking the establishment of a Nimba University annex in Ganta City, the commercial hub.
Under the proposal, the Change Agent Network (CAN), and Opportunity Network Liberia (ONL) facility in Ganta would be made available to Nimba University through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The proposed initiative would allow Nimba University, currently based in Sanniquellie City, to extend its academic presence to Ganta.
Nimba Kwado believes the proposed expansion could bring university education closer to the school-going young people, and other residents in Ganta, and surrounding communities.
Dr. Mongrue welcomed the proposal, and expressed acceptance of the request as he emphasized the need for the initiative to follow the university’s established governance process.
Mongrue: “The Nimba University Board is scheduled to meet on September 30, where the proposal will be placed on the agenda for detailed discussion and consideration.”
The proposed Ganta annex is being viewed by Nimba Kwado as an opportunity to strengthen the educational infrastructure while creating a platform for academic growth and youth development.
The initiative also highlights the potential of partnerships between educational institutions, and organizations that control existing facilities to support the expansion of higher education.
If approved by the university’s governing authorities, and followed by the necessary MoU, the initiative could mark an important expansion of Nimba University beyond its current facility in Sanniquellie.
For Nimba Kwado, the proposal represents a commitment to education, youth empowerment, and the future development of the county.
