War And Economic Crimes Court Establishment Must Be Done With Care

83

CALLS FOR THE establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia to right the wrong of our governance system for a better future of the country are in no way ignored and we must support every step of the process along the way in establishing said court.

HOWEVER, THE PROCESS is bordered on sensitive and legal challenges that cannot and should not be swept under the carpet as deliberately doing so would likely jeopardize our chances of achieving the justice we are eagerly seeking.

IT IS OUR ardent hope and sincere prayer that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai will remain sobered and upright in dealing with the task of ensuring that a credible path or journey to combating the longstanding and difficult to break impunity in Liberia is not distracted due to lapses that could give political and economic vampires the edge to maintain the old order forever.

INTERESTINGLY, WE THINK the latest move by the government to constitute a committee to restructure the make-up of the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia is welcoming and in the right direction.

WHATEVER MOUNTING CRITICISMS from the public against the initial decision of President Boakai to have appointed Cllr. Jonathan Massaquoi; as head of such WECC Office in Liberia, the shift in said previous decision places President Boakai in the driving seat to always listen to the people in making resounding decisions in the interest of the public.

WE ARE OF the opinion that the new move will definitely give rise to the right trajectory in the fight against impunity which well-meaning Liberians wholeheartedly support, so that the country can break away from the ugly and dangerous past, bearing in mind that a brighter and prosperous future of our country remains strongly advocated.

TO THIS ENDED, let those selected to form part of the constituted committee for the setting up of the War and Economic Crimes Court Office in Liberia work with open mind to get the best of ideas, void of negative set mind that has the proclivity to ruin the process we are all watching with eager eyes for social justice, good governance and a rule of law in Mama Liberia.
