The Unity Party’s (UP) Grand Kru Chapter has reportedly been dragged into a rental dispute involving more than US$1,800.
The incident has put the ruling party’s county headquarters in Wakpaken, Barclayville, at the center of a growing controversy.
Sources familiar with the matter say, the landlord took the dispute to court when the Party reportedly failed to make payment of the outstanding rent.
However, rather than allowing the matter to proceed fully through the court process, UP authorities reportedly negotiated for a conference to resolve the dispute, and reach an understanding with the landlord.
The development is likely to fuel questions about the financial administration of the UP’s county operations, particularly why a ruling party’s local headquarters would accumulate a rental obligation large enough to result in court action.
For the landlord, the issue is reportedly straightforward: payment of the money owed. But for the UP, the dispute could become a political headache if the matter remains unresolved.
Meanwhile, UP Grand Kru authorities have yet to publicly explain the circumstances surrounding the alleged debt, or disclose the outcome of the reported conference.
