U.S. Gov’t Empowers LDEA
The United States Government through INL, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has donated 15 motorcycles and 23 SIM cards to authorities at the 8Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).
Each of the Sim cards, according to a release, has one-year internet subscriptions.
The equipment are to strengthen anti-drug operations and rapid response.
At the turnover ceremony, UNODC Country Representative, Jesús Aguilar, described the donation as a demonstration of international cooperation and a major boost to Liberia’s security sector. Aguillar said, the support will enhance mobility, communication, and access to hard-to-reach communities as law enforcement continues confronting transnational drug trafficking networks. He praised the LDEA for its growing operational progress and reaffirmed UNODC’s continued partnership and commitment to capacity building.
United States Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Joseph E. Zadrozny, commended the leadership of LDEA Officer-In-Charge Fitzgerald Biago.
Zadrozny escribed the fight against illicit drugs as a shared responsibility that requires strong partnerships, and trusted leadership.
He noted that every drug seizure and prosecution contributes to the safety of Liberia, the region, and the United States.
Zadrozny meanwhile, reaffirmed America’s continued support for Liberia’s security and justice sector reforms.
Justice Minister Osward Tweh thanked the U.S. Government, INL, and UNODC for their unwavering support to the country’s security sector. Tweh described illicit drugs as a serious threat to the nation’s future and youth. He reaffirmed government’s confidence in the current LDEA leadership, and pledged continued collaboration in the fight against drug trafficking.
LDEA Officer-In-Charge Fitzgerald Biago who received the donated equipment expressed appreciation for the timely support.
Biago described the gesture as a major operational boost for officers working under difficult conditions, especially in leeward counties.
He assured partners that the equipment will be used responsibly to strengthen enforcement, improve communication, and protect communities across Liberia.
“The LDEA, he said remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and stronger collaboration in the collective fight against illicit drugs and transnational crime,” DCP Biago stated.
The ceremony highlighted the growing partnership and shared commitment between Liberia, the United States Government, and UNODC to advance regional security and combat drug trafficking.
