…Leaves Vehicles Stranded‎

The deplorable condition of the Toe Town/Tappita highway has left dozens of commercial and private vehicles stranded.

The road condition has exposed the worsening state of the road infrastructure, and disrupting the free movement of goods and services.

‎‎A news outlet investigation established that due to the deplorable condition of the stretch of road, many drivers are trapped along the highway for more than a week as deep mud, damaged road sections, and impassable environments continue to block traffic.

‎A tanker driver, Keita Barry, described the situation as “unbearable,” saying: “drivers have endured severe hardship while waiting for the road to become passable.”

‎”The condition of this road is getting worse every day. Even though it is not as terrible as it was between 2018 and 2023, it remains a serious challenge for motorists and transport operators,” Barry recalled.

‎‎He explained how prolonged delays have increased transportation costs, caused fuel shortages in some areas, and left drivers without adequate food and shelter while stranded on the highway.

‎‎Barry called on road maintenance authorities to urgently intervene before the situation deteriorates further.

‎Residents and motorists have also expressed concern that continued neglect of the Toe Town/Tappita road corridor could further isolate Southeastern communities; slow economic activities and create additional hardships for citizens who rely on the highway for transportation and trade.

‎They have meanwhile, urged the government to launch immediate rehabilitation works to restore safe passage along the vital route.
