Grand Kru County facilitator for the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ small-scale grant program, Waka A. Chie, has commended the Ministry for conducting a capacity-building training.

The training was to strengthen facilitators from the 15 counties ahead of the rollout of the grant initiative.

It brought together county facilitators, and focused on key areas, including financial literacy, and record keeping, business planning, savings, investment, and risk management, and grant investment planning.

Chie described the training as timely, practical, and educative, saying: “It has equipped facilitators with essential knowledge, and tools to effectively guide beneficiaries of the small-scale grant program.”

The training, Chie said, will help facilitators better support beneficiaries in managing their grants responsibly, develop sustainable businesses, keep proper financial records, and make informed investment decisions. “The training has equipped us with the knowledge, and tools needed to effectively implement the small-scale grant program.” Chie represented Grand Kru County during the training. Chie said the knowledge acquired would not only benefit his responsibilities as a county facilitator but would also be shared with students of the institution’s Business Department. He noted that lessons from the training, particularly in entrepreneurship, financial management, savings, investment, business planning, and record keeping, could help students develop practical skills needed to participate meaningfully in Liberia’s business environment.

The Grand Kru facilitator further praised the Ministry of Youth and Sports for what he described as its investment in youth empowerment and community development.

He said the success of the Small-Scale Grant Program will depend, in part, on beneficiaries receiving proper guidance and developing the discipline needed to manage the resources provided to them. The training comes as the Ministry of Youth and Sports prepares to roll out the Small-Scale Grant Program across Liberia, with county facilitators expected to play a critical role in supporting beneficiaries at the local level.

Chie said he remains committed to applying the knowledge acquired from the training to support young people and entrepreneurs in Grand Kru County, while contributing to efforts aimed at promoting financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and responsible investment.
