House Seeks Suspension Of GLS Menxiesm EHS’ Operations
Forty members of the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature have signed and adopted Resolution No. 001/2026, formally requesting the President Joseph N. Boakai Sr., to temporarily suspend the operations of GLS Menzies and Express Handling Services (EHS) pending the outcome of the ongoing narcotics investigation surrounding the recent drug seizure at the Roberts International Airport (RIA).
The resolution was unanimously passed on Thursday, June 25 2026, following extensive deliberations by members of the House of Representatives during plenary proceedings.
Prior to the vote, Sinoe County Electoral District #3 Representative, Alex S. Noah, submitted a formal communication supporting the resolution and urging immediate action concerning the operations of Global Logistics Service (GLS-NAS Inc.) in Liberia.
In his communication to plenary, Rep. Noah raised concerns regarding the company’s alleged connection to the recent confiscation of narcotics valued at approximately US$19.2 million at Roberts International Airport.
He noted that while Liberia’s Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) had announced the seizure and arrest related to the massive drug consignment, circumstances surrounding the importation and intended movement of the illegal substances remain under investigation.
Rep. Noah further stated that despite being linked to ongoing inquiries, the company continues operations and handles cargo at several ports of entry across Liberia, including Roberts International Airport.
He also referenced recent actions taken by President Boakai regarding the matter, noting that the Chief Executive Officer of the company, who also serves as member of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), had been suspended after being identified as a person of interest in the investigation.
Addressing fellow lawmakers, Rep. Noah stressed the serious impact of narcotics on Liberian society.
“Drugs have reached a point in our society where we cannot afford to compromise any longer. The increasing spread of narcotics is destroying the fabric of our society and negatively impacting our youth on a large scale. Therefore, any individual, group, or institution believed to be connected with illegal drug activities should be dealt with decisively,” he stated.
Predicated upon these concerns, Representative Noah requested plenary to institute the following actions against GLS-NAS Inc.:
Communicate with the Ministry of Justice and relevant authorities to immediately suspend or close the operations of GLS-NAS at all ports of entry in Liberia; Require the CEO and General Manager of GLS-NAS to appear before plenary and explain the company’s operations in Liberia and any potential connection to the US$19.2 million drug seizure at RIA; Require company officials to provide all relevant documents, including any concession agreements existing between the company and the Government of Liberia.
Rep. Noah further argued that while the Executive Branch and Joint Security agencies continue investigations, the Legislature also has a responsibility to ensure transparency and accountability.
He cautioned that allowing the company to continue operations amid ongoing investigations could negatively affect Liberia’s international reputation and potentially signal weakness in the country’s efforts to combat organized crime and transnational drug trafficking.
Following deliberations, members of the House unanimously voted to pass the resolution and instructed the Chief Clerk to formally transmit the House’s decision to the Office of President Boakai for appropriate action.
