The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) is to roll out a new Small-scale Business Grants Program to help young entrepreneurs in River Gee County.
The grant is to get young entrepreneurs’ businesses off the ground.
The official launch is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, at the Fish Town City Hall.
Youth and Sport Minister Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah will lead the event.
River Gee County Coordinator for the Ministry, Ben Karty said, the program is designed to provide direct financial support, and technical guidance to young people interested in starting, or expanding small businesses.
”This initiative is about creating real opportunities. We want to encourage young people to take ownership of their economic future by supporting viable small-scale businesses that can create jobs, and serve local communities.”
While the ministry has not yet released the exact grant amounts, or number of beneficiaries, Karty say, priority will be given to youth-led ventures in agriculture, petty trading, food processing, tailoring, and other service sectors that have strong potential in the county.
Karty spoke of the Ministry commitment to work closely with youth groups, community leaders, and local authorities to ensure that the grants reach deserving applicants, and are used to build sustainable businesses.
“The Ministry is willing, and ready to partner with young people in the county. This is part of efforts to promote youth empowerment, reduce unemployment, and drive economic growth.”
The September 9 launch at the Fish Town City Hall, is expected to bring together youth representatives, local officials, business leaders, and partners.
Organizers say the program will also include information sessions on how to apply, business planning, and financial management.
The new grants program comes as the government continues to push youth-focused economic initiatives in counties outside Monrovia.
