MOA Hosts Livestock Value Chain For Farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture through the Rural Economic Transformation Project (RETRAP) is holding a week long Public-Private Dialogue for farmers.
The farmers are those engaged in poultry, and piggery farming. The exercise is to identify opportunities, and challenges in the sectors, and to navigate solutions that will produce shared responsibilities for government, and stakeholders.
Participants for the first phase of the dialogue were drawn from Montserrado, Margibi, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu counties.
The Dialogue and was held in Monrovia.
The second phase began on Wednesday, August 5, in Gbarnga, Bong County. It is hosting farmers in poultry, and piggery sectors from Bong, Nimba, Lofa and Grand Gedeh counties.
Crop Development Specialist at the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. G. Moses Zolue, said, the dialogue is an important milestone, and a collective conversation to strengthen the piggery, and poultry industries.
“We are here not simply as stakeholders, but as collaborators determined to elevate livestock production into a cornerstone of food security, economic opportunity, and rural advancement. We are also in every county where inspiring example emerged as farmers built resilient enterprises, entrepreneurs innovating in feed, and veterinary services, and communities finding new ways to thrive.”
However, Dr. Zolue says, the hurdles remain financing gaps, limited technical support, and market constraints.
He said, the dialogue is a chance to face those realities head-on, exchange knowledge, and design solutions that work for government, and private sector.
“Experiences from neighboring countries remind us that when governments, private actors, and development partners engage in structured dialogue, livestock sectors flourish. Liberia now stands ready to adapt those lessons, ensuring piggery, and poultry become engines of inclusive growth, and national pride.”
He urged participants to showcase achievements that highlight the promise of piggery, and poultry enterprises, and pinpoint obstacles that demand collective problem solving, explore innovations in technology, investment, and supportive policies, and draft action frameworks that will guide implementation beyond the dialogue.
