In a scathing address, Miatta Fahnbulleh, a prominent political figure, and advocate for social justice, expressed profound disappointment in former President George Weah, labeling his tenure “disastrous.”
Madam Fahnbulleh remarks followed increased public discontents regarding the economic, and social challenges the country is faced with, which she attributed to Weah’s failed six years leadership (2018-2024).
“During Weah failed administration, we witnessed a decline in basic services, rampant corruption, and stagnation in economic growth.”
Madam Fahnbulleh said, the challenges the nation faces today are a direct result of Weah’s inability to govern effectively, and his disconnect from the realities of ordinary Liberians.
However, she shared part of the blame for Weah’s rise to power on former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who Madam Fahnbulleh accused of “unleashing Weah on the nation.”
She suggested that Weah ascendency to the country’s highest office was the result of “political maneuvering masterminded by Ellen, rather than genuine democratic support.”
“Madam Sirleaf’s endorsement of Weah was a grave miscalculation that has cost our nation dearly,” Madam Fahnbulleh remarked.
She meanwhile, urged the public to reflect on the consequences of their electoral choices in the next electoral cycle.
Her statements have garnered public attention, igniting discussions among political analysts, and the electorate regarding the legacies of both the leaders.
Critics of Weah have long pointed to his lack of political experience, and inadequate policy implementation as contributing factors to the current failed state of affairs.
In a sharp rebuttal to Madam Fahnbulleh’s claims, former Montserrado County District #8 Representative, Moses Acarous Gray, described her as “self-centered,” suggesting she believes power belongs to a particular elite group that has failed to develop the country.
Gray further asserted that Madam Fahnbulleh is primarily concerned about elitism, claiming she has cleverly created a class system that benefits only a select few, and their families.
“They governed the country as if following the theory of the philosopher king, but that approach has crashed, and burned,” Gray added.
