The Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center (LOIC) Gbarnga Satellite Campus has called on women, young people, and interested citizens to take advantage of its technical and vocational training opportunities.
The Center made specific reference to it newly established tailoring program designed to promote economic empowerment and self-reliance.
LOIC Gbarnga Satellite Program Manager, Rachel J. Paye, told reporters that the six-month tailoring course aims to equip interested candidates with practical sewing skills that can help them create income-generating opportunities and improve their living conditions.
Madam Paye said, the tailoring department was established through support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports in partnership with Eco Energy Liberia, with the goal to expand access to skills training for community members.
“Our tailoring department is now open. therefore, are encouraging women to come and learn the trade.”
Madam Paye disclosed how the institution intends to begin with an initial class of 25 trainees.
“We don’t want people to stay away, because they don’t have all the money. Our fees are affordable, and we are flexible. If you have the desire to learn, come and register.”
To make the program accessible to students, workers, and other busy individuals, Madam Paye said, LOIC will conduct afternoon classes, allowing the trainees to combine vocational training with their daily responsibilities.
The institution currently has several sewing machines available, while additional machines are undergoing repairs.
The Center expects to have about 15 operational machines ready for the first training cycle.
Beyond tailoring, LOIC Gbarnga Satellite Campus currently provides training programs in agriculture, business, information and communication technology (ICT) and electricity.
Madam Paye further encouraged churches, community groups, and organizations to promote skills training among their members, and partner with LOIC to provide customized vocational and computer literacy programs.
