More than 40 residents from several villages in Zorzor District, Lofa County, have constructed a community road with their bare hands.
The exercise to improve transportation, support agricultural activities, and connect remote settlements.
The initiative, is undertaken under the banner of the Kaizai Development Association (KAiZA). It commenced on October 10, with the locals from Luyeawulu, Wenwo-Kpaila, Bobota, Gan-Kpaila, Kpailuewu, and other nearby communities participating in the first day of work.
The project organizers said, the road is expected to connect more than five villages, with plans to extend it to additional communities.
The chairman of the road project, John Garan said, the work will be completed within six months, “depending on the availability of materials, and community support.”
Garan explained how the inhabitants unanimously agreed to address the transportation difficulties in the area, particularly farmers, and the elderly persons.
He said, sometimes, people often walked from Yeala Town to some of the distant surrounding villages for hours, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce, and access their farms conveniently.
Joseph Kokulo, chief engineer for the road project, and Takpa Brown, chairman for the work, have assured residents that efforts would be made to ensure the construction progresses.
