LNBA Vice Presidential Candidate’s Ambition Gets Backing

As members of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA), gear up this weekend in Ganta City, Nimba County to elect new leadership for the association, several lawyers in the country have pledged their fullest support to Cllr. Dr. S. Mohammed Sheriff to become their next National Vice President of the bar. According to them, Cllr. Dr. Sheriff is best suited for the position and up to the task. The lawyers stated that the veteran Liberia lawyer is bringing to the Vice Presidency of the LNBA a lots tangible that will help move the association forward. According to the lawyers Cllr. Dr. Sheriff is one of the outstanding lawyers in the country who thousands of people highly regard. They stated that when they elect Cllr. Dr. Sheriff as the next National Vice President of the LNBA, he will seek the general welfare of lawyers in the country.  They informed their fellow lawyers in the country that, Cllr. Dr. Sheriff mean-well for lawyers in the country. According to them, Cllr. Dr. Sheriff is well connected to become the LNBA next National Vice President. The lawyers stated that currently amongst all of the candidates in the race, he is the only candidate many of them are expressing interest in. Dr. S. Mohammed Sheriff holds a degree in Doctor of Medicine with postgraduate degree and fellowships in several disciplines. He practiced medicine for several years in Italy and later worked in the USA at the Washington Hospital Center, D.C. where he was recruited by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as a Tokten Fellow Transfer of knowledge through expatriate National(s) assigned to Liberia for the reconstruction of post-war Liberia Health Sector.  Cllr. Dr. Sheriff after practicing medicine for over 25 plus years, he with the passion to study law, decided to enrolled at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law (University of Liberia) where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude in 2009 and subsequently was admitted as Attorney-At-Law (LNBA) in 2010. After the practice of law for over five years, he sat and passed the Supreme Court Bar Examination and was admitted to the Supreme Court Bar as Counselor-At-Law. Cllr. Dr. Sheriff holds the following academic qualification: Doctor of Medicine from the prestigious Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Rome, Master of Science in Diagnostic and interventional Radiology, fellow of the Italian Society of North America, fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. Fellow of the Liberian College of Surgeons in Liberia.

The veteran lawyer has served with honors positions and they include: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia to the court of St. James United Kingdom with concurrent jurisdiction to the Holy see (Vatican). Ambassador and permanent Representative of Liberia to the United Nations Rome Based Organizations (FAO, WFP, IFAD) and the Italian Republic; Ambassador-At-Large (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.L.); Deputy Minister of Transport for Administration & Insurance; Deputy Minister of Health & Social Welfare; Member of the National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA 2003-2006); Chief Medical Officer and Acting General Administrator (John F. Kennedy Medical Center); Associate Dean of the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine (UL), Member of the University of Liberia Board of Trustees, and Member, Board of the Liberia Institute of Biological Research (LIBR), etc. At the National Legislature, Cllr. Sheriff Co-sponsored several bills including the Financial Autonomy Act of the Judiciary for an Independent Judiciary.  Cllr. Dr. Sheriff served as Adjunct Professor at the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS); Assistant Professor of Radiology at the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine (UL); Lecturer at the Tubman National Institute of Medical Arts (TNIM); currently serves as Assistant Professor at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law (UL) and Lecturer at the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU). As member of the National Legislature of Liberia, Cllr. Dr. Sheriff served as Chairman on the Committee on Executive with the oversight responsibilities of the Executive Branch of Government, Chairman on the Health & Social Welfare Committee and Vice Chair on the Maritime Committee, Ranking member of the Public Procurement and Concession Commission Committee, and several other Legislative Committees. At the Liberian National Bar Association, Cllr. Sheriff was elected as Member of the National Executive Committee of the LNBA from 2019 to 2024. Cllr. Sheriff has been an active member of the Bar since his admission in 2010 and has served on the following committees: grievance and Ethics Committee, Credential and Licensing Committee, Covid-19 Ad-hoc committee for the prevention of Covid-19 in the Prisons of Liberia. He is a member of the Montserrado County Bar.
