LDEA Destroys Over LD$4M Worth Of Harnful Drugs
The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Grand Gedeh County Detachment, on Monday, July 1, 2024, destroyed over L$4 million worth of illicit drugs. According to the LDEA, the harmful substances destroyed include, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, tramadol amongst others. Giving an overview of the program on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the LDEA Grand Gedeh office, the LDEA Special Agent Papa Gumpu indicated that the drugs were confiscated by officers of the agency between June 2023 and June 2024, respectively. Gumpu reiterated his commitment in combating harmful drugs and substances use in Grand Gedeh County. Making remarks at the occasion, Grand Gedeh County Attorney, E. Wilkins Nah commended commander Gumpu and his officers for their robust action in the fight against drugs and illicit substances. Atty. Nah pledged to foster a good working relationship between the office of the County Attorney, LDEA and the Joint Security of the County. However, he called on stakeholders of the county to ensure that perpetrators are made to face the full weight of the law, which according to him, will minimize the use of illicit drugs in the county. For his part, Grand Gedeh County Superintendent Alex C. Grant lauded the LDEA for living up to their tasks and responsibilities in the county. He pledged his administration’s support to combating drugs and other crimes in the county. According to him, he is hopeful that the agency will work collaboratively with the newly constituted Grand Gedeh Anti-Drugs Taskforce to curb drugs spread and use in the county. “This is the president’s vision, let’s fight drugs in the country,” said Grant. Superintendent Grant in recent days set up an Anti-Drugs Task Force in the county. His action comes after he recently declared drugs a public enemy. Membership of the taskforce include: The LDEA, LNP, and all components of the joint security, Ministry of Health, EPA, City Corporations, Transport Unions, Commissioners, amongst others in Grand Gedeh.
