EYE Liberia, in partnership with the Orange Foundation, has commemorated World Sight Day 2026 in Voinjama, Lofa County, through an eye-care outreach aimed at improving access to vision services and providing corrective eyeglasses to beneficiaries.
The initiative, held under the theme: “The Gift of Sight – Making Clear Vision Possible,” brought together eye-care workers, volunteers, community members, and beneficiaries for vision-related services and activities designed to promote eye health.
As part of the outreach, 160 beneficiaries were targeted to receive support aimed at improving their vision and overall quality of life.
Photos from the event showed a large collection of prescription eyeglasses prepared for distribution, while community members were seen undergoing registration and other procedures associated with the initiative.
The campaign’s banner also highlighted a broader target of reaching 650 people with improved vision support, reflecting the partners’ commitment to expanding access to eye-care services in underserved communities.
The outreach has come amid ongoing efforts by health organizations and development partners to address barriers to essential eye-care services, particularly in rural communities where access to specialized treatment and corrective eyeglasses remains limited.
World Sight Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the importance of eye health, the prevention of avoidable blindness, and access to quality vision care.
Eye-health experts continue to emphasize the importance of regular eye examinations, early detection of vision problems, and timely treatment to prevent avoidable sight loss.
According to the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa, uncorrected refractive errors and cataracts remain among major causes of vision impairment across the continent, with underserved populations often facing significant challenges in accessing appropriate eye-care services. The Voinjama outreach represented an important effort to bring vision-related services closer to residents of Lofa County who might otherwise struggle to access eyeglasses and professional eye examinations.
Through their partnership, EYE Liberia and the Orange Foundation are highlighting the importance of good vision in education, employment, personal independence, and overall well-being.
The organizers are encouraging members of the public to prioritize their eye health by undergoing regular eye examinations and seeking professional medical attention whenever they experience changes in their vision.
