The TUMUTU Agricultural Educational Training Center in Salala District, Bong County, is to officially resume full operations beginning Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The expected development signals government’s renewed focus on vocational and agricultural education for young Liberians.

The reopening of the Center follows a government-led rehabilitation process and fulfills a commitment the Minister of Youth and Sports Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah made earlier this year during her national assessment tour of youth and sports facilities.

During that engagement, Madam Krua pledged to restore the institution as part of efforts to expand practical skills training opportunities. After months of renovation and preparation, the center is now positioned to reopen its doors to a new batch of trainees, with authorities emphasizing its importance in strengthening agricultural workforce.

Director of the TUMUTU Agricultural Educational Training Center, Prince Kromah, said, the institution is fully prepared to restart academic and technical training programs aligned with modern agricultural practices. Kromah said, the updated curriculum will cover key areas, including crop production, livestock management, agribusiness, sustainable farming techniques, general agriculture, farm machinery operations, and computer studies to equip students with technical and digital competencies. Kromah said, the Center is targeting an enrollment of 200 students in its upcoming intake.  The goal is to train a new generation of skilled agricultural practitioners capable of improving productivity and contributing to national food security.

On that, Kromah acknowledged that attracting sufficient enrollment remains a challenge, “because the Ministry of Youth and Sports has provided 75 scholarships for prospective students, while additional discussions are ongoing with development partners to secure further support.”

Kromah confirmed that major facilities, including classrooms and student dormitories, have been fully renovated and are ready for use, with final works being completed ahead of the reopening date. He also appealed to community leaders and parents to encourage young people to take advantage of the opportunity.

The reopening of TUMUTU is being viewed as part of a national strategy to revitalize vocational education and reduce youth unemployment by promoting skills development and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector.

Officials believe the revitalized Center will play a key role in transforming rural livelihoods and advancing a long-term agricultural development goal.
