Residents of Gorwamue Town in Jorquelleh District #3 Bong county, have appealed to government, and relevant authorities for urgent intervention to contained the crisis of water pollution.
The appeal followed reports that their main water sources have been contaminated, leaving the community struggling to access safe water for drinking.
Community members alleged that mining activities conducted by a gold mining company in nearby Jackson Village have damaged, and polluted water sources relied upon by residents of Gorwamue, and surrounding areas.
Residents say, the reported situation has created serious difficulties for the community, particularly as households depend on the affected sources for drinking, bathing, washing clothes, cooking, and other daily activities.
The availability of clean, and safe water has become a growing concern, with residents fearing that continued use of the affected sources could expose them to health risks.
The residents have meanwhile, called on local authorities, environmental agencies, health officials, and humanitarian organizations to investigate the situation, and provide immediate assistance to the affected community.
They have also asked authorities to assess the impact of mining activities in the area, and determine whether the reported operations have contributed to the condition of the community water sources.
Residents say, the immediate priority should be the provision of safe drinking water while efforts are made to establish the cause, and extent of the reported contamination.
“We need help,” residents said, emphasizing that access to clean water is essential to the health, and survival of every community.
They further urged authorities not to wait until the situation becomes more serious before responding to their concerns.
