Fire Service Accuses Weah
LNFS says: “Service reports that former President George Weah has declined to grant its investigators’ permission to carry its full investigation into the fire incident at his residence ‘
While Mr. Weah or his office was yet to respond to LNFS’s statement accusing the former president of non-cooperation into the investigations, the entity released further details making the incident as though it was fake or a self-made anecdote.
LNFS details:
“On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at about 12:48 a.m., the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), said it received a call that the 9th Street residence of Mr. Weah was gutted by fire.
“Upon receiving the call,” LNFS said, “the second shift crew at station one on Ashmun Street, immediately departed the station at 12:48 a.m., and arrived at the fire scene at 12:54 a.m.
“While station one was fighting the fire, stations four and five along with the ambulance went as backup to station one. According to the firefighters, the origin of the fire was from the former President room on the first floor. The fire later spread to the bed, dresser and window.
“Major George S. Davis, Commander of the second shift observed that the electricity (current) was fluctuating at the time of combating the fire.
“The team believed that the cause of the fire was as a result of electrical shock.
“The fire was extinguished at 1:20 a.m., and the team departed the fire scene at 2:03 a.m.
“On Wednesday morning of September 24, 2025, the fire investigators went to the 9th street residence of Mr. Weah to investigate and establish the actual cause of the fire, but they were denied entry in the compound
“They were told that they would be contacted when the need arises. Up to the release of this statement, the LNFS is yet to receive a call.”
Other fire incidents:
“On September 24, 2025, there was a fire outbreak at Rehab Road, Jacob Town, Paynesville, regrettably, there were three deaths as a result of the fire.
Investigation to establish the cause of the fire is ongoing.”
Gov;t reactions
MEANWHILE, government called on Mr. Weah to allow fire investigation to continue their investigation unhindered.
The Ministry of Information made the call to the former president to grant investigators full access to determine the exact cause of a recent fire outbreak at his Sinkor 9th Street residence.
Deputy Minister for Public Affairs, Daniel O. Sando, told journalists at the Ministry regular press briefing on Thursday, September 25, 2025, that preliminary reports suggest the “fire started as a result of an electrical shock in the former President’s bedroom.”
Sando said: “fire fighters responded in time and battled the flames for nearly three hours before bringing the situation under control.”
However, he said the LNFS investigation team was reportedly prevented from conducting a full probe by individuals at the residence.
“We have called on Mr. Weah to allow investigators to establish what really happened. Liberians deserve a clear picture of the incident,” Sando said.
He cautioned against misinformation, noting that some individuals were already pointing fingers at the government.
“Freedom of speech comes with responsibility, and we should be mindful of what we say or write on social media,” he added.
