EPS To Withdraw VIPs’ Protection

The Executive Protection Service (EPS) has announced an immediate withdraw security protection from any of the VIPs, who publicly advocates for insurrection, rebellion, or violent protest against the government.

Henceforth, the EPS said it attention has been drawn to recent public statements made by “certain officials,” which amount to calls for chaos and violent disruption of public order.

Such utterances, the EPS said, are deeply concerning and inconsistent with the laws of the country.

“As mandated by law, the EPS is responsible for the protection of the President, the Vice President, their immediate families, visiting foreign dignitaries and other senior officials of government as directed by the President,” the release said.

This mandate, EPS said, is rooted in the duty to ensure the safety and stability of the Liberian state.

Meanwhile, the entity said anyone protected by its officers that “actively engages in or incites violence or rebellion against the government forfeits the privilege of EPS protection.”

As such conduct, according to the release, directly contradicts the EPS’ constitutional and operational responsibilities.

The EPS said, it remains committed to providing professional, impartial and robust protection to all its designated protected VIPs.

However, it cannot and will not be used as an instrument to undermine the peace, security and constitutional order of the Republic.
