Let Teachers Be Seated at The Front Row

26

The Ministry of Education has advanced a very salient point that seems to be like the marrow in the bone. She has announced that all teachers should be licensed before being qualified to enter class rooms to teach; something which is primarily imperative.

This point is very essential because teaching is a very important career in any society given that a teacher is a breeder of future generation; a rich nursery where the human seeds grow to bear fruits to benefit society.

While we support the idea of teachers being licensed, we equally call for handsome benefits for them and the improvement of teachers’ training institutes. It’s pathetic for teachers to bend low under the weight of poverty while politicians wear eagle’s wings and sit prosperously.

Teachers deserve many benefits, because they play a major role in shaping society, educating children, and building the future of a nation.

Teachers deserve fair and timely pay so they can live decently, and focus fully on educating students. Teachers should be honored and appreciated for their service to the nation and community.

Access to medical care and health insurance helps teachers remain healthy and productive.

Affordable housing or housing assistance can help teachers live comfortably, especially those serving in rural areas.

After many years of service, teachers deserve financial security during retirement.

Teachers should receive regular training, workshops, and opportunities to improve their knowledge and teaching skills.

Teachers deserve maternity leave, sick leave, and vacation time to rest and care for their families.

Hardworking teachers should have chances for promotion and career advancement.

Teachers deserve books, computers, internet access, and other tools that make teaching effective. In some areas, transport assistance can help teachers reach schools safely and on time.

Teachers deserve stable employment and protection from unfair dismissal. Teachers are nation-builders. When teachers are treated well, students learn better and the whole country benefits; not just to randomly license them.
