Dr. Maparyan Pushes Reform, Stronger Academic Partnerships

University of Liberia (UL President, Dr. Layli Maparyan, has called for a renewed commitment to strengthen higher education sector.

Dr. Maparyan urged universities to work together in preparing graduates capable of leading the country’s development efforts.

She made the call during the fifth commencement convocation of Bong County University (BCU), where she served as keynote speaker.

Dr. Maparyan said, the future of Liberia depends largely on the ability of higher education institutions to produce skilled, responsible and innovative citizens who can respond to national challenges. She stressed the need for universities to move away from operating in isolation, and instead, embrace partnerships that promote knowledge sharing, research and improved learning opportunities for students.

She said, collaboration among institutions of higher learning is essential to build a stronger workforce and create an education system that supports the long-term development goals.

Dr. Maparyan described BCU as an important contributor to educational growth, noting that the institution’s role in providing affordable and practical academic programs to young people was necessary in the academic sector.

She praised BCU for developing programs that support national priorities, particularly in agriculture, science, education, health, technology, engineering and business.

Dr. Maparyan said, graduates from the listed disciplines have a critical role to address challenges affecting communities and help to drive economic advancement.

She also commended the leadership and entire BCU community for their dedication to expand access to quality education, and maintain the university’s growth since its establishment in 2010.

Directly to the graduates, Dr. Maparyan encouraged them to carry the values of discipline, professionalism, and service as they enter the next chapter of their lives.

She reminded them that their degrees represent not only academic achievement, but also a commitment to contribute meaningfully to society.

She challenged the Class of 2026 to become leaders, who will inspire change, create solutions and help build a more prosperous nation.

The graduation ceremony concluded with celebrations from families, friends, and supporters as BCU reaffirmed its commitment to produce graduates prepared to serve.
