The program was launched with backing from Dr. Numenh Owen Dunbar, who made an initial contribution of L$100,000 to support the initiative.
Dr. Dunbar, a representative aspirant for Bong County Electoral District #3, reaffirmed his commitment to support programs that transform lives through education and skills development.
He encouraged women throughout the county to seize the opportunity, “because vocational education remains a powerful tool to achieve financial independence and long-term economic stability.”
He said, sustainable development begins with investing in the people, particularly women and the young people, who play a critical role in strengthening local economies and improving household livelihoods.
Dr. Dunbar further pledged to continue supporting initiatives that expand educational and economic opportunities for women.
He described empowerment through skills training as a lasting solution to unemployment and poverty.
The program is designed to provide vulnerable women with practical vocational skills that will enable them to become economically independent, self-reliant, and active contributors to the development of their families and communities.
AWE Program Director Emmanuel Tamba said, the initiative is expected to benefit at least 500 women from in the county.
Participants will receive intensive training in pastry production, catering, and other marketable vocational disciplines to strengthen their entrepreneurial abilities and improve their chances of earning sustainable incomes.
Tamba described the initiative as a major investment in the future of women, adding that empowering women with practical skills is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty, create employment opportunities and promote community development.
The Action for Women Empowerment initiative is expected to create lasting economic opportunities for hundreds of women in the county by promoting entrepreneurship, strengthening vocational capacity and helping beneficiaries to establish sustainable livelihoods that will positively impact their communities.
