A child right advocacy, and social development institution, the Children Welfare Foundation international (CWFI), has commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for his “farsightedness in the fight against the drugs epidemic.”
The group said, the initial steps the President has taken is praiseworthy given that illicit drugs, which has permeated all system in its entirety, and fast eroding every fabric, and facet of the society thus creating a bleak future has been diminished.
CWFI acknowledged that prior to ushering the Boakai’s administration, drugs abusers were in numbers to the extent that no community was free of ghettos, which served as sanctuary for the drugs abusers.
“They were even seen in various streets corners sleeping while standing.”
The group said, the saddest part of the situation was how school going kids (teens), who supposed to be under parental care, or guidance, were loitering in communities while they consumed the illicit drugs with no remorse.
The Group said, the war against the drug menace has the inclination to compel the nation to build large numbers of mental homes to at least free the country of dangerous substances.
CWFI wants Pres. Boakai to ensure that importers of narcotic drugs be punished with the minimal jail term of at least 25 years.
Members of the group are of the conviction, that when such punishment is instituted without fear, or favor, no matter who’s caught in the web, it will serve as a deterrent to would be importers.
CWFI said, Pres. Boakai move to fight the drug menace is a monumental step that needs concerted efforts to make the country a drugs free nation.
