Bong County detachment of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has stepped up its campaign against drug abuse.
The that, the Agency has taken its sensitization drive to Zota District as authorities intensify efforts to confront the growing threat of illicit drugs in local communities.
The one-day awareness campaign, led by Bong County LDEA Commander, Papa S. Gombu, brought together local authorities, community leaders, residents, and law enforcement representatives, who discussed the dangers associated with drug abuse, and the need for stronger community involvement to fight the menace.
The initiative forms part of the Agency’s prevention, and awareness campaign in Bong County, with officials seeking to ensure that communities are better informed about the consequences of drug abuse, and the importance of preventing its spread.
Gombu has meanwhile, urged residents, and local leaders to work closely with the LDEA by providing relevant information, and supporting efforts to address drug-related challenges.
Bailey Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Kids Survival Liberia, expressed satisfaction over his organization’s collaboration with the LDEA.
Jones said, Kids Survival Liberia has been involved in community awareness activities to address drug abuse, and remains committed to work with institutions, and community stakeholders.
The Zota awareness campaign comes amid concerns over drug abuse, particularly its impact on young people, and communities.
For the LDEA, however, the message is that enforcement alone cannot solve the problem, but to involve the locals.
The Agency says it will continue taking its sensitization campaign to communities across the county, while encouraging residents to become active partners in efforts to reduce drug abuse, and strengthen community safety.
