President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is expected to officially launch the government’s nationwide Yellow Machine Operation.
The initiative is to improve road connectivity as well as create more than 1,000 employment opportunities for Liberians.
The program is designed to stimulate economic activities in the counties by deploying heavy-duty equipment to rehabilitate, expand, and extend roads in rural communities, towns, cities, and major market areas.
Chairman of the Special Presidential Project Coordinating Committee, Brownie Samukai, said, preparations are underway to ensure that the equipment are fully ready for deployment, and operational activities.
While on Prime FM in Monrovia, Samukai disclosed how each of the Yellow Machines will be operated by two operators, and two assistants, all of whom will be recruited locally.
He explained how the workers will be based in the counties where the equipment are being assigned will provide employment opportunities for residents, while supporting local infrastructure development.
Samukai further disclosed that each of the 15 counties will have a county coordinator responsible for supervising the proper use, management, and deployment of the equipment.
According to him, nominated county coordinators will undergo a five-day workshop, and vetting process before being formally appointed to their respective positions.
Meanwhile, Samukai revealed how the Yellow Machines have already been deployed to Grand Bassa, Grand Kru, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Maryland, Bomi and Nimba.
He said, the equipment will open, and rehabilitate roads, particularly in underserved rural communities where poor road conditions continue to affect commerce, transportation, and access to essential services.
Samukai added that all 15 counties, including Montserrado, will receive a set of the equipment, but Bong, Nimba, Lofa, and Grand Bassa, will each get two sets as the government moves to expand road works, and employment opportunities.
