The Plenary of the House of Representatives has passed into law a bill seeking the establishment of the Bong Mines Vocational Training Institute (BMVTI).

The institute will operate as a semi-autonomous public institution dedicated to technical and vocational education.

The passage followed the submission, and consideration of a joint report from the House Committees on Education, Public Administration, and Judiciary, which recommended the enactment of the proposed legislation.

Bong County Electoral District #7 Representative, Foday Edward Fahnbulleh introduced the bill.

Fahnbulleh said, he saw the need for a vocational institution that will equip young people, especially residents of Bong County, with practical technical and vocational skills.

The legislation, titled: “An Act to Establish the Bong Mines Vocational Training Institute (BMVTI) as a semi-autonomous public institution for technical and vocational education.”

It aims to create a structured institution that will provide competency-based training in various technical disciplines to prepare a skilled workforce capable of supporting national development.

Fahnbulleh said, the rationale for the establishment of the institute is in line with government’s agenda to expand access to quality education while producing a technically competent workforce to meet the growing demands of an evolving economy.

The institute will offer specialized technical and vocational programs designed to promote economic self-reliance, strengthen workforce capacity, and stimulate sustainable development.

With the House’s passage of the bill, the proposed legislation will now be forwarded to the senate for concurrence in keeping with the legislative process.
